India’s first public sector steel plant was built in Bhilai in collaboration with Soviet Union Government, in the year 1956. It was a dream of our beloved first prime minister late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the aim was to create employment and help India in all round development. The small village which had no entity in the past started bursting with activities. A large no. of Christians from different states with different backgrounds, different customs and different mother tongue, and belonging to different Church denominations came to Bhilai. To seek their bread and butter they had nothing in common except their savior Jesus Christ. It is satisfying to note that the Christian leaders of leading Church denominations functioning in Chhattisgarh region thought it better not further split the Christians Community into different denominations, but to unite all the Christians as one group. It was the wisdom of leading evangelical Churches namely disciples of Christ Church, Jabalpur (M.P), General conference Menonite Church Jagadishpur (M.P.), Chhattisgarh Orissa Church council, Raipur (M.P.), Menonite Church, Dhamtari, (M.P.) and Weslyen Methodist Church, Rajnandgaon, (M.P.), who though it better to unite all Christians of this growing town under one banner. Accordingly a board of these co-operating Churches was formed in September 1956 to work out the programme for the formation of the Christian Community Church at Bhilai. The huge responsibility of Church planting was placed on Rev. P. Pannalal, Later on who proved himself best in Church planting. A well qualified pastor Rev. P. Pannalal was installed as pastor of Church on 8th May 1957. Initially he came on deputation but finally decided to serve the Church on permanent basis. On 5th Oct 1958 first chairman of the board – Rev. T. Essebagger dedicated the congregation and declared that the Church organized and named it “Christian Community Church, Bhilai (M.P.)” which would embrace all protestant Christians of different denominations. The first secretary of board was Rev. P. Pannalal and treasurer was Rev. P. S. Miller. Earlier the board of Christian Community Church consisted of representative from the five co-operating Churches , however, for the last few years the representative of co-operating Churches have withdrawn and the board presently consists of Panchayat Members of Christian Community Church sector -6 , Bhilai, Rajhara, Nandini. Chruch Panchyat functions under the administration of board complete democracy prevails in the functioning of the Church and the administration of the Church is managed by the Church Panchyat. The members of the Church Panchyat are elected in a democratic manner every year by the full members. In the year 1957 – the first Panchyat Members are as follows:
Chairman : Rev. C. Wlliamson, Secretary : Mr. P. B. Amolik, Treasurer : Mr. J. G. Arnold, Members : Mr. L. P. Lal, Mr. Habil.
